The documentary follows events taking place from 1999 onwards along an urban stretch of the Tiber River, south of Rome’s GRA ring road. It unfolds aboard the barges of two families of eel fishermen, who have passed down their craft for generations.

Cesare and Alfredo, known as the Rosci, wage a war for control of the river against Nando and Franco, the Ciccioni, who live with their mother, Sor Irene. Over time, however, the two families come to reconcile, bringing their long-standing rivalry to an end. Following the deaths of Sor Irene’s sons, it is the Rosci who take on the care of her.

Later, the arrival of Anwar from Bangladesh introduces a new “god” of the river, renewing a cycle that becomes memory and inheritance.
