Naples. A Virgin with a bruise on her cheek that generates miracles. Around her revolve three female characters who never meet, but who understand internal bruising.
Giusy, a girl in a wheelchair who never got the miracle and became an atheist, free spirit and anthropologist expert in Marian cults. Fabiana, a transgender woman who heads a group of Virgin worshippers in a working-class inner-city neighborhood. And Sue, a Korean pianist seeking a new direction for her life, teaching music to children in need in a city place so distant from her home culture. Each with their own intimate wounds and their own personal quest for the “miracle.”
